My Backstory

Fifteen years ago, my mother unceremoniously handed me a binder filled with articles about her family and one “famous” relative in particular (at least famous in his small town in Indiana). His name: Peter Surprise.

Peter was born when George Washington was in the White House and died 102 years later. In one article, I found a throwaway line: “Peter Surprise’s great grandmother, Jeanne Denot, was, “A Daughter of the King.” This mention was the catalyst for writing the book. I crafted a narrative using one part fact and three parts fiction in a novel called, “A Daughter of the King.”

Like my protagonist Jeanne, I met a handsome stranger on a journey. (On an airplane not a ship.) Two years after that fateful flight, I moved with my husband to his homeland, Sweden. Here I found a supportive writing community through The Stockholm Writers Group. In 2017, I founded, The Stockholm Writers Festival. Our aim: help writers “find their path to published.”
