“It takes good seed to sow a country.”

With these words, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Minister of State to Louis XIV, sealed an edict to ship hundreds of women from France to Quebec to marry soldiers there and settle the burgeoning territory. These women were known as, “Les Filles du Roi,” or, “The Daughters of the King.”

Through, “A Daughter of the King,” the story of one woman, Jeanne Denot, shines a light through the centuries on these heroines.
